It's Jingle everywhere

Having studied at a missionary school for the initial years of my schooling, every Christmas takes me back to those days. Perhaps because those were the best or i never saw any authentic Christmas celebration after that. I have seen it big and bright. Though i was never a part of any activity and even if i would have i don't remember it now, but i enjoyed the show being an attentive no-other-option spectator. The major activities which took place every year without fail were carol signing, enactment of birth of Jesus Christ, sweet distribution and probably few words from our principal highlighting the significance of the event. However, i never saw any Christmas tree adding to the flavor of air.

A carol which was recited every year in the over dramatic melodious voice was :

Silent night, Holy night
Birth of the holy light
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin , mother and child
Holy infant so, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,

Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,

Christ the Savior is born.
Santa Claus is coming around

Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth

Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

We, at that age were not that keen upon listening and watching the acts and used to get bored in no time. And nothing other than the sweet distribution used to get the excitement back. As far as i recall scratching my memory cells, the sweet appeared to be a distant relative of cup-cake closely resembling a sweet bun. Any how, it was quickly savored.

It used to be a usual day at home with my grand parents calling it "Bada Din". I was never make to believe Santa coming in a sleigh with a socks-full of goodies, through the chimney. In fact, i was never aware if any such belief exists. These days parents has chosen it as an eccentric way to showcase their love for kids. I longed for going to a Church throughout my childhood and the wish was full filled only when i was capable of going around alone. Yes, my parents never took me there.

These days a tall Christmas tree welcomes you at every mall in the city and i still watch it with a child-like curiosity. Nothing special is done by me on 25th except for visiting a church sometimes and donating some of ours old clothes to Mother Teresa house. Though, the feel of hoopla is still alive. For this year, i have planned to sit back comfortably in warm sunlight with a novel, relishing an elaborated meal. And of course, i am baking a cake today.

How do you all spend your Christmas ?
